Galerija KloviŠevi dvori is located in the Upper Town inside the Jesuit monastery constructed in the 17th and 18th century. A four-sided edifice is organized around the court with a medieval defense fortress presently integrated in the exhibition space. Located in the very heart of the old Zagreb, Galerija KloviŠevi dvori with thirty years of tradition and its unique position figures as the leading museum and gallery institution in the region.
The City of Zagreb and the Republic of Croatia are the Gallery's founders and sponsors with equal share. Since 1982 when Galerija KloviŠevi dvori has first opened its doors on more than 4000 square meters of exhibition space it housed more than one thousand exhibitions. With its vast exhibition space Galerija KloviŠevi dvori hosts a wide range of very diverse artistic, cultural and historic themes. Masterpieces from the Paris Picasso Museum is the exhibition that closed in July this year with some 140 000 visitors and it is only the last success story preceded by many famous exhibitions coming to Zagreb from all over the world. The Ancient Chinese Culture, a very important exhibition from 1984, was the major breakthrough for the Gallery since it was the first time that the famous Xian Terracotta Army left China to be exhibited elsewhere arriving directly to Zagreb. Many other remarkable exhibitions of Croatian and foreign art followed.
Presently the Gallery hosts approximately 150 000 to 200 000 visitors every year. Over time it became a very important meeting point for all those interested in visual art but also in literature, film, design, architecture and other contemporary forms of art expression. The Gallery also hosts various lectures, workshops for all age groups, round tables, performances and concerts.
